Index for Inclusion: Developing Learning and Participation in Schools

The Index is a practical resource for school self-evaluation and improvement. Inclusion in the Index is a principled approach to developing education, it focuses on cultures, policies and practices that affect everyone: children and adults, schools, families and communities.

The Index has been translated into 37 languages and is in use in many countries throughout the world. This third edition, substantially revised and expanded, adopts a values based approach which draws together a wide range of interventions in education, for example those concerning equality, environmental sustainability, democracy, global citizenship, healthy schools and non-violent education. Spiral bound for easier handling, the revised edition comes with a CD providing an electronic version of the Index, including questionnaires that can be adapted to the context of individual schools. Staff from schools that piloted the third edition described it as a Thought provoking, incredibly useful, challenging document and A no-badge, non box-ticking, supportive system to help with a range of development activities including school reorganisation.
