Tape Music Composition

This is a practical textbook. It takes the reader who wishes to compose electronic music step by step through the skills and technical knowledge required, starting with the mechanism of an ordinary tape recorder and ending with advice on assembling an electronic studio. No special previous experience is called for, in either music or electronics. In the author's words, his aim is to help people make not electronic music, but electronic music. 'I believe that we are about to embark upon the golden age of electronic music and I warmly invite the reader to examine the potentials of the medium and to make music if he finds these potentials appealing.' David Keane (born 1943), Professor of Theory and Composition at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, and Director of the University Electroacoustic Music Studios which he founded in 1970, is himself an active and successful composer of electronic music.
