Rowe started to write a remembrance that he could give his children and grandchildren, but he soon realized that being an engineer was an essential part of his life story, and he changed his focus to more impersonal things--references to Six Sigma, engineering triumphs, and various corporate challenges crowd the text-- in hopes that the volume might also encourage young people to consider going into engineering themselves. Rowe became fascinated with air flight as a child watching the Battle of Britain unfold in the skies above London. Eventually he became president of General Electric Aircraft Engines, the US business whose jet engines had a role in the cold war and in making commercial flight affordable for average citizens. His business memoir is dotted with b&w images. Annotation 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
