A Theology of Persecution: How Can Believers Face the Growing Animosity to the Christian Faith?

For two thousand years, the Christian Faith has been steadily growing and spreading throughout the different nations of the world. However, anyone familiar with church history knows that followers of Jesus Christ have undergone great trials and afflictions, even hatred and contempt from those among the societies they live in. Christians hold within their minds and hearts the truths that lead to eternal life, and yet they have often faced ridicule and been ostracized from the cultures around them at different points throughout history. Since the time of the Protestant Reformation, Christian truths and beliefs have helped to transform the world we live in, especially in the formation of the affluent West. However, as we find ourselves becoming immersed within the trends of the 21st century, what was once a recognized and tolerated worldview is becoming more and more attacked and challenged within Western societies. What does the Bible say about this trend? How can believers face what seems like a downgrade into eventual persecution? A Theology of Persecution looks at the Bible and the history of the church to answer these questions and to give Christians answers and hope in these challenging times within which we currently find ourselves.
