Picture the archetypal surfing beach image: dark blue sky, azure sea, blazing sun, white sand, tanned skin, sun-bleached blonde hair. Now, dismiss this completely from your mind... Anderson & Lows groundbreaking new project is an exploration of a relatively new phenomenon: Taiwanese surfing culture. Although picturesque in sunshine, these beaches truly come into their own under the lead-coloured skies of the typhoon season when the surfing season is in its prime. For then the rain blackens this dark, volcanic sand, creating a sombre palette, redolent of Lowrys seascapes.
