HISTORY AND TRADITION OF JAZZ - Text

This text is designed for the college non-music major and is a look at how 20th century Americans forged a personal and unique art form that defined the culture they lived in. Includes stories and legends of important events and people who shaped jazz history; descriptions of how and why New Orleans, Chicago, Kansas City, and New York became important in the development of jazz; descriptions of how jazz has been an important lightning rod in our country's battle with race issues; and special emphasis on recent developments and important artists.
