The Telecourse Guide is written to be used with Humanities Through the Arts telecourse and the accompanying text by Martin and Jacobus. In the telecourse, the humanities are approached through a study of seven major arts: film, drama, music, literature, painting, sculpture, and architecture in thirty 30-minute programs. Each of these arts is considered from the perspectives of historical development, the elements used in creating works of art, meaning and form expressed, and criticism or critical evaluation. The Humanities Through the Arts is designed specifically for contemporary post-secondary students who are seeking to meet transfer and general education requirements or who are interested in personal enrichment. Maya Angelou, a multifaceted American artist who has earned recognition in at least four of the seven arts considered in this telecourse, is the on-camera host. The telecourse is offered by Coast Learning Systems (www.coastlearning.org; 1-800-547-4748).
The Telecourse Guide helps students master material in the textbook and in the video programs by providing lesson overviews, learning objectives, assignments, additional readings, review quizzes, and suggestions for further study.
