The Indian Wars of Pennsylvania, is the most complete and documented book on the history of the Indian wars on America s Eastern Frontier. Originally published in 1929 and revised in 1931, Indian Wars is based primarily on the Pennsylvania Archives and Colonial Records. With background chapters on Indian religion, character and the Indian tribes of Pennsylvania, Sipe discusses chapter by chapter the 40 years of Indian Wars from 1755 to 1795. Beginning with the French &Indian War and the causes that led up to it, Sipe covers all Indian uprisings and tragedies, Pontiac s War, Lord Dunmore s War, and concludes with 7 chapters on the Indian influence on the Revolutionary War. With Pennsylvania as keystone of the colonies and gateway to the west, it is indeed appropriate that Sipe called the Indian Wars of the Eastern Frontier the Indian Wars of Pennsylvania. All of the major wars of this time period (1755-1795) had their roots in Pennsylvania history and most military leaders involved in those Indian Wars and a majority of their fighting men were from Pennsylvania.
