Tours of Discovery: A San Francisco Muni Album (Interurbans Special 89)

TOURING SAN FRANCISCO on the Muni . . . what a marvelous way to go! Our conductor is Anthony Perles, whom you have met in The Peoples Railway and Inside Muni. Those two books, published earlier by Interurban Press, documented the history and operations of the San Francisco Municipal Railway, surely one of the most unique transit systems in North America. This volume is the third in the Muni trilogy. Its name was inspired by the long series of route maps issued by the Muni over the years. The name Tours of Discovery, carried at the top of the map, was an invitation to tourists to use the Muni as their means of getting around town. Our Tours ofDiscovery comprises a new treasury of Muni photos. These range from some rare and vintage views whose existence had not come to light in time for incor-poration in the earlier books, right up to coverage of San Francisco's historic trolley festivals of 1983 and 1984. No other transit system-no other city-has inspired so much devotion by fan and photographer. There certainly were more than enough photos to fill three big books with-out any duplication. The need for this photo album has thus been met, and we proudly offer it to our readers as Interurban Special 89.
