she's flowers and fire

For anyone who reads this book, I hope it can be more than just a poetry book for you. I hope it feels like a self-discovery book. It's about my search for self-acceptance, the healing of my heart, my hope to overcome my fears and anxieties, my want to allow all of my different layers and energies, my curiosity about my passionate nature, and my journey through self-exploration, and I hope it sparks a connection for you to those kinds of things too. I know that I probably broke a few rules for how a poetry book is meant to be with it, but I just didn't know how to put it together any other way. So there's a little bit of creative chaos to this book... I've shared some stories in it of where some of the poems come from because I feel people can often connect to the backstories and the meaning behind them, too. I have some different versions of some poems for different reasons in places because they all just made sense in their own little ways. I've included lines and excerpts of the poems in different ways because, for me, little parts of poems can have an entire energy and meaning on their own, so I just feel like they're meant to have their own space. I've included some blank writing pages that I hope may inspire you to sort through your own heart and feelings. The title of this book... 'she's flowers and fire,' is something I knew would be this book title before I even finished my first book, 'wild spirit, soft heart.' Years ago, I wrote a little tumblr quote, 'love like flowers and fire,' for a blog I had with some friends before my 'butterflies rising' journey. And since then, "flowers & fire" has come out in a bunch of different ways in different poems and quotes over the years, and that combination of "flowers & fire" has become such a defining energy of who I am, so I just knew it would be the very core of this book. Like my first book, 'she's flowers and fire' is another book of my poetry, quotes, thoughts, feelings.... more little pieces of my soul. And just like 'wild spirit, soft heart,' it definitely has a lot of "flower energy" running through it, but it also has a lot more "fire energy" running through it. I still write from a vulnerable and sensitive place, but I feel like I wrote from a braver and more fearless place this time. I like to think of it as "wildflower energy." Because of the creative chaos in this book, I don't know for sure how it will be taken, but I do hope the very same things I hoped for with my last book... that when you read it, my heart and soul come through, and that maybe the words speak to your heart and soul in some way, too.
