Twenty progressive artists in Brussels among them many of the most important artists then working in Belgium formed the exhibition society Les XX in late 1883. This exhibition catalog includes a generous selection of their prints, drawings, posters, books, and journals (234 illustrations, 19 in color), while six essays explore the bonds between the visual arts, politics, literature, and music and their expression in Belgian graphic arts, and demonstrate the relevance of Les XX to several late 19th-century progressive artistic movements.
