This beautiful 79 page book, not including 12 full-page color reproductions of paintings by Eric Sloane, is dedicated to Wiley Post who stated Some day an artist will come along and paint just clouds and sky. Also contains many black and white drawings and half-tones throughout. Before Eric Sloane was a recognized painter, he was a weatherman and he became fascinated by the history of Colonial American farmers who kept detailed records of weather from year to year to help them make the right decisions about planting, harvesting and farm chores. This book is a combination of meteorology and Americana, two subjects no one is more qualified to portray in both text and illustrations than Mr. Sloane. He writes in particular of American skies, which he firmly believes are different and more majestic than any others the world over. As the foremost painter of clouds and American skies, he is in a position to know. You can almost tell where you are, he says, by looking upward, and in this incomparable book he tells why.
